How Do I Become a Good Dancer? By Sheena Larsen
Painless? No effort? Unfortunately, our society has a general misconception about how to get what we really want. This misconception goes by the name of Instant Gratification. In today’s world, we can have the body of a fashion model in 30 days, go on a shopping spree without having money in our bank account, and lose 80 pounds on a diet of steak and ice cream.
I am here to tell you that becoming a great salsa dancer is neither quick, easy nor painless. As a matter of fact, to get good at ANY endeavor in life, you have to go through some type of discomfort. Were Frankie Martinez, Burju, and Eddie Torres born great dancers? No (well, maybe Frankie was). They all made themselves into amazing dancers. Behind every great dancer are stories of failures and disappointments. The problem is that we only see the finished products. Salsa dancing is a skill, just like learning how to play the piano or program on a computer. Many of us are far from being the incredible dancers we would like to be. But if we stay committed to improving our dancing, even in the face of perceived obstacles and disappointments, we will taste the sweetness of victory. I would like to share some pointers on improving your dancing that have helped me in my progression as a dancer.
KEEP DANCING!
